Cheiloclinium cognatum
Characteristics - Cheiloclinium cognatum is a fruit bearer, not cultivated nor frequent in its natural habitat, all forested areas through-tout most of the Brazilian territory, except in the south. It is a small tree or shrub, 4-6 m tall, at times subsacandent tending to form lianas. Leaves are chartaceous, glabrous on both surfaces 10-14 cm long. Inflorescences in small fascicles, axillary and extra-axillary with diminuative flowers of both sexes forming in August-September and again in February-March. Fruits are berry- type with a juicy pulp and sweet flavor, ripening in April- June and again in December.
Uses - Fruits are consumed only in their natural state but are not widely appreciated even though they have a pleasant flavor.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
