Pilosocereus arrabidae
Characteristics - Pilosocereus arrabidae is not a cultivated fruit bearer but is is relatively abundant in its natural habitat, the coastal levees (restingas) from southern Bahia to Rio dc Janeiro. It is a succulent shrub with a short trunk, branched at its base, 1-3 m tall. Cladodes with 5-8 angles (ribs) have areoles ivith various stiff spines 15-40 mm long, ^lowers are solitary, fragrant, androgynous md form from September to November, "ruits are berry-type, dehiscent, containing a iucculent, farinaceous pulp with a pleasant, lightly sweet flavor. They ripen during the Brazilian) summer.
Uses - The fruits are only consumed in their atural state and are not widely appreciated.
Propagation - Easily propagated from stem (cladode) cuttings.
