Tropical Plant "Jaci"
Scheelea butyracea
Characteristics - Scheelea butyracea is not cultivated, although it is easily found in its natural habitat in Acre and the western part of Amazonas, in dry land forests and open areas. It is a solitary palm, 8-18m tall. Leaves are characteristically arched, 5-8 in long with 180 -230 pairs of pinnae regularly distributed and arranged on the same plane. Inflorescences interfoliar, branched, dense, with both female and male present on the same plant. Fruits have a fibro-carnose, edible mesocarp (pulp); the endocarp (stone) is woody and hard, inside it contains a single, oily, edible seed (nut).
Uses -The fruits are consumed in their natural state, both the mesocarp (pulp) as well as the nut.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
