Tropical Plant "Corosol"
Rollinia emarginata
Characteristics - The corosol is a fruit tree seldom cultivated and not frequent in nature. Native to the coastal sandy areas (restingas) of southern Brazil. It is a small deciduous tree seldom taller than 3 m. Leaves are simple, membranous, glabrous from 3-5 cm long. Yellow flowers, single or in groups of 2-3, extra-axillary, form from August to October. The fruit is a syncarp berry-type, globose or irregular, with an almost smooth surface that turns yellow when ripe. Ir contains a small mass of succulent, sweet pulp with few seeds. Fruit ripens from November to January.
Uses - Although the fruit has a pleasant flavor, it is only consumed in its natural state because of the small amount of edible pulp available.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
