Tropical Plant "Wine grape"
Vitis vinifera
Characteristics – The wine grape is a fruit bearer originally from Central Asia, whose cultivation, in the Middle East, dates back to 8000 BC. Today it is widely cultivated in most of the Brazil, for table grapes; for making wine, they are grown mainly in the South. It is a perennial, climbing shrub, woody, the foliage is deciduous in the winter. Leaves quite variable, chartaceous, bicolored, 12-24 cm long. Flowers inconspicuous, androgynous, male and female arranged on the same inflorescence (thyrse type), in bunches, form in August-September. The fruits are globose berries, with a thin exocarp, the pulp I succulent, sweet or acidic; they mature in the summer.
Uses - The fruits are consumed fresh, as juice or as wine.
Propagation - Propagated by grafting.
