Tropical Plant "Muscadine grape"
Vitis rotundifolia
Characteristics – The muscadine, bullace or fox grape, is a fruit bearer, originally from the USA, not widely cultivated in Brazil, more frequently, it is used as a root stock, for grafting other grapevines and occasionally for fruit production. It is a perennial, climbing shrub with a slightly, woody texture, foliage is deciduous in the winter, capable of tolerating the tropical climate. Leaves simple, chartaceous, glabrous, concolored, 6-12 cm long. Flowers inconspicuous, greenish, androgynous, arranged on extra-axillary inflorescences, of the thyrse type; form in August-September. The fruits are globose berries, the exocarp (skin) is thin, smooth, green or red, with a succulent pulp, the flavor is slightly sweet or acidic; they mature in the summer.
Uses - The fruits are consumed fresh or as a juice and in the form of wine.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
