Characteristics - The guayabilla is a tropical fruit bearer from northern South America, mainly Colombia, and was recently brought from there to Brazil, where it is occasionally cultivated, in domestic orchards, by collectors of fruits. It is a large shrub or small tree, semi-deciduous, 2.0-3.5 m tall, capable of tolerating winter in the southeast. Leaves subcoriaceous, glabrous, lustrous, 5-12 cm long, with a short petiole and nerves impressed, on the upper surface. Flowers are androgynous, solitary or in fascicles of 2-4, axillary and terminal, pedunculated, form 3-4 times per year. Fruits are globose, flattened, with a thin skin, shiny and orange, they have a very succulent pulp, with an acidic flavor, very aromatic, containing 2-4 seeds that separate easily from the pulp; they mature 3-4 times per year, mainly in the summer.

Uses - The fruits are consumed mainly in natura as juices.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
