Tropical Plant "Persimmon"

Characteristics - The Persimmon is an exotic fruit tree from Asia, that is widely cultivated in the subtropical regions of Brazil, where it was introduced in 1890. It is a deciduous tree, 6-12 m tall. Leaves are coriaceous, smooth and lustrous on the upper surface, velvety brown on the inferior surface, 8-25 cm long, turning reddish in the fall. The flowers form in the spring, they can be male (arranged in groups of 3), females (solitary) and androgynous, however, physiologically in behaves like a dioecious plant. The fruits ripen in the autumn, their size varies depending on their cultivar; the pulp is succulent, reddish-yellow to almost brown, with a sweet flavor, with or without tannin.
Uses - The fruits are consumed exclusively in natura and are greatly appreciated.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds and grafting.
