Tropical Plant "Wild raspberry"
Rubus rosifolius
Characteristics - The wild raspberry is not a cultivated fruit bearer (in Bazil), however it is abundant in nature from Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro to Rio Grande do Sul, in brushy areas, along roadsides, in pastures and on fallow land. It is a bush or shrub, evergreen, erect, thorny, from 0.4-2.5 m tall with villous branches, trichomes glandular and aculeolate, from 2-5 mm. Leaves compound pinnate with 5-7 leaflets, membranaceous, glabrate on both surfaces, 2-8 cm long, with linear stipules 5-9 mm and a petiole of 2-4 cm. Flowers white, solitary or in pairs, form during various seasons of the year, mainly in the spring. Fruits aggregate with a hollow and carnose fruit receptacle, with a sweet, pleasant flavor; they ripen in thesummer.
Uses - The fruits are consumed in their natural state and made into jellies.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
