Tropical Plant "Tagua-tagua"

Characteristics - The tagua-tagua is a fruit bearer cultivated in the northern part of the country and is not frequent in its natural habitat in the Amazon region. It is an herbaceous, semi-perennial climber (with tendrils), totally glabrous (except for the bracts), with a cilindrical caulis, stipules are linear-subulate. Leaves are membranaceous, palmate 5-7 lobed, 8-15 cm long with a 4-11 cm petiole that has 1-2 pairs of glands, club shaped, situated at the base or in the middle. Flowers solitary, axillary, strongly perfumed, 6-8 cm in diameter, form from July to November.

Fruits green even when completely mature, have a juicy pulp with a sweet flavor and a fragile skin, they mature from November to March.

Uses - The fruits are consumed in their natural state and greatly enjoyed.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
