Tropical Plant "Yellow granadilla"
Passiflora laurifolia
Characteristics - The yellow granadilla is a fruit bearer, not under cultivation in Brazil, however it is widely cultivate in the Antilles and is relatively frequent in nature in its natural habitat in the Amazon region, notably in Para. It is an herbaceous perennial, climber (with tendrils), glabrous (except for the bracts and the ovary), cylindrical caulis, stipules narrow, linear, coriaceous, 3-4 cm long. Leaves coriaceous, lustrous, 6-12 cm long, with a robust petiole of 0.5-1.3 cm, having 1 pair of oblong glands, situated at the base of the foliar lamina. Flowers are solitary, perfumed, 5-7 cm in diameter; they form from October to January. Fruits have a juicy pulp with a sweet, pleasant flavor and a hard skin; They mature from January to April.
Uses - The fruits are consumed only in their natural state and are greatly appreciated.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
