Tropical Plant "Brazilian guava"
Psidium guineense
Characteristics - The Brazilian guava is not a cultivated fruit bearer, however it is relatively frequent in nature in its natural habitat, the scrublands, grasslands, savannas and barren land of most of Brazil. It is a shrub or small tree, semi-deciduous, the trunk and branches are covered in smooth, brownish bark, it is 1-5 m tall with new branches-pubescent, purplish and tetragonal. Leaves bicolored, coriaceous, pubescent on the inferior surface, 7-10 cm long with salient nerves and a 5-10 mm petiole. Flowers solitary or in groups of 2-3, axillary, form in October-November. Fruits are ovoid berries, crowned with sepals, they have a succulent pulp with an acidic flavor and ripen in the summer.
Uses - The fruits are consumed, mainly, in their natural state but not greatly appreciated.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
