Tropical Plant "Guabiroba-do-litoral"
Campomanesia guaviroba

Characteristics - The Campomanesia guaviaroba is a fruit bearer occasionally cultivated in domestic orchards, and is frequent in its natural habitat in the Atlantic Forest of Espirito Santo to Rio Grande do Sul. It is a semi-deciduous tree, 6-12 m tall. Leaves subglabrous or minutely puberulent along the nerves, on both surfaces, 4-13 cm long. Flowers solitary, axillary, with puberulent peduncles, form from September to November. Fruits have a succulent pulp, firm with a sweet flavor, they mature in November and December. They can be distinguished from the other species because the lobes of the calyx are triangular and wider than long, also by the villose hypanthium.

Uses - The fruits are consumed only in natura and greatly appreciated locally.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
