Tropical Plant "Uchi"
Endopleura uchi

Characteristics - The uchi is a fruit tree, rarely cultivated but frequent in nature in its native habitat, the dry forests in the states of Amazonas and Para, being particularly common in the latter, in estuaries and the Bragantina region. It is an evergreen tree, 20-30 m tall. Leaves are simple, coriaceous, glabrous on both surfaces, 10-20 cm long. Inflorescences small axillary cymes with many fragrant, greenish flowers, form from September to November. The fruits ripen from January to March. They are oblong or ellipsoid drupes weighting 50-70 grams, with a thin mesocarp (pulp), carnose-farinaceous and a resinous and oily consistency, with an agreeable flavor and aroma. The endocarp (pit) is woody and hard, containing 1-2 seeds.

Uses - It is consumed in natura fresh or in very tasty ice creams. It is widely commercialized in the local street markets.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
