Inga banana

Characteristics - The inga banana is a fruit tree occasionally cultivated for use in landscaping and is very frequent in its natural habitat, the Atlantic Forest from Sao Paulo to Rio Grande do Sul. It is a semi-deciduous tree, 5-10 m tall. Leaves pinnate with alate rachis, 4-5 pairs of leaflets with pubescent veins, 4-14 cm long. Inflorescences in solitary, axillary racemes, form from August to November. The fruits are legumes, cilidrical and indehiscent, dense-pubescent, with few seeds, wrapped in floccose aril with a sweet flavor.

Uses - The aril, of the fruits, is consumed in its natural state but is not widely appreciated.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
