Tropical Plant "Guabilla"
Inga marginata

Characteristics - The guabilla is a fruit tree widely cultivated as an ornamental and of frequent occurrence in its natural habitat, various forest formations through most of the Brazilian territory. It is a semi-deciduous tree, 5-15 m tall. Leaves are even pinnately compound with alate rachis, 2-3 pairs of chartaceous and sessile leaflets, 7-18 cm in lengh (terminal pair) and 4-12 cm (basal pair). Inflorescences form from October to February in axillary spikes, solitary or in groups, 4-11 cm long, with white, fragrant flowers. The fruits are legumes, compressed-cilindrical, indehiscent with seeds wrapped in very tasty, floccose aril. They ripen from March to May.

Uses - The aril, of the fruits, is consumed in its natural state and greatly enjoyed.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
