Tropical Plant "Cortica-lisa"
Rollinia salicifolia
Characteristics – The corica lisa is not a cultivated fruit bearer, though relatively frequent in its natural habitat, the forests and forest ‘islands’, of western Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina; this species and the previous species R. emarginata, are considered, by some botanists, to belong to the species Rollina rugulosa Schltdl. It is a deciduous tree, 4-7 m tall. Leaves simple, chartaceous, glabrous on both surfaces, 6-10 cm long. Flowers solitary or in groups of 2-3, axillary and extra-axillary, yellowish, form in November-December. The fruit is compound (syncarp), with many seeds, wrapped in small amounts of a succulent, sweet pulp; they mature in January and February.
Uses – The fruits are consumed only in natura, but are not widely appreciated, because of the large number of seeds.
Propagation – Propagated by seeds.
