Tropical Plant "Mountain soursop"
Annona Montana

Characteristics – The mountain soursop is a native fruit tree, only cultivated in domestic orchards, mainly in the Amazon region, by indigenous people. It is native to the Antilles and northern South America (including Brazil.) It is an evergreen tree 8-14 m tall. Leaves papyraceous, brilliant, glabrous on the upper surface, 15-25 cm long. Flowers solitary, extra-axillary, large, slightly scented, carnose petals, form in the Spring.

Fruits are compound (syncarp), up to 26 cm long, green even when ripe and covered in tiny carnose apicula. Pulp is acidic and fibro-mucilagenous with strong aroma and lots of seeds. They ripen from April to June.

Uses – Fruits are consumed in their natural state, in juices, occasionally being commercialized in the open markets of the northern region.

Propaganation – propagated by seeds.
