Characteristics - The cajui is a fruit tree na-tive to the scrublands of western Bahia,
south and central Piaui,
Tocantins and in the higher ar is. that do not flood,

'Ctween this and other species of cashew la s lies in the small
size of its pseudofruits. Some botanist consider it to be a forma
of Anacanlium occicdentale L. It is a plant not yet under cultivation.
It is a tree, 4-8 m tall, with semi-deciduous foliage. Leaw coriaceous,
20-30 cm in length. Flowers androgynous, ar uged on panicles, 20-40
cm in length, form in vugust and September. The fruits ipseu-dolruits) ripen from
October to December, when they are widely sought after and even commercialized.
Uses - The pseudofruits are tasty with an acidic flavor;
they are eaten fresh. The nuts, when roasted are also edible.
