Tropical Plant "Miracle fruit"
Synsepalum dulcificum
Characteristics - The miracle fruit is a tropical plant, originally from Africa; in Brazil it is known, only by collectors of fruit, who cultivate it, more as a curiosity, than as a fruit bearer. After eating its fruit, its flavor makes anything acidic, taste sweet in flavor, hence its common name. It is a deciduous shrub, less than 1 m tall. Leaves simple, concentrated on the apex of the branches, chartaceous, glabrous on both surfaces, 3-6 cm long. Flowers androgynous, solitary or in pairs, on the axiles or below the foliar zone, form in the spring. Fruits are ellipsoids, with a very, thin skin, a sweet and carnose pulp, with 1 seed; they mature in the summer.
Uses - The fruits are consumed exclusively in natura (fresh) and are appreciated.
Propagation - Propagated by see.
