Tropical Plant "Tangor"
Citrus reticulata
Characteristics - The tangor is an exotic fruit bearer that originated from an accidental, or deliberate, crossing of a tangerine (C. reticulata) with a sweet orange (C. sinensis) or with another tangor; various cultivars have been created in different countries, including Brazil, where some are already being widely cultivated, commercially, like the tangor 'Murcott' (photos this page) created in the USA. It is a small, evergreen tree, with few thorns, 3-4 m tall. Leaves chartaceous, glabrous and lustrous, 4-8 cm long. Flowers axillary, fragrant, solitary or in small groups; they form in August-September. Fruits are round, with a thin skin, that is difficult to remove, the pulp is acidic-sweet, with many seeds; they mature in the winter.
Uses - The fruits are consumed mainly in natura, fresh or as juice.
Propagation - Propagated by grafting.
