Tropical Plant "Calamondin"
Citrus mitis



Characteristics - The calamondin is an exotic fruit bearer, originally from China, seldom cultivated in Brazil, mainly found in domestic orchards, in the southeast, however, it is the main source of citrus juice in the Philippines. It is a woody shrub, or small tree, evergreen, 3-5 m tall, many branched from the base with few thorns. Leaves simple, aromatic, coriaceous, glabrous and lustrous on the superior surface, a lighter color of green on the inferior, 4-7 cm long, with a short petiole, slightly alate. Flowers very fragrant, white, solitary or in groups of 2 or 3, on the apical axiles of the branches, they form in August-September. Fruits are subglobose, very aromatic, lustrous, with oil vesicles, a thin, sweet skin, a pulp with 6-10 segments, very succulent and acidic, they mature in the autumn.

Uses - Fruits are consumed in natura, as juices and refreshing drinks, it is also a condiment.

Propagation - by seeds and grafting.
