Tropical Plant "Sour orange"
Citrus aurantium



Characteristics - The sour orange is a fruit; bearer from Southeast Asiay widely cultivated in tfai domestic orchards of Brazil, where it" was introduced during the colonial period. It is a small evergreen tree, 3-8 m tall, with axillary thorns, not too acute, of 3-8 cm. Leaves pinnate, with aromatic leaflets, glabrous, with oil glandules shaped like dots, bicolored, 6.5-13.7 cm long, with alate petioles. Flowers solitary or in groups, very aromatic, unisexual (only 5-12% are male); they form in August-September. Fruits thick-skinned and bitter, with a succulent and very acidic pulp, with many seeds; they mature in the fall and winter.

Uses - The fruits are consumed in natura in the form of juices and used as a condiment; the skin is used in the culinary field to make sweets and jellies.

Propagation - by seeds and grafting.
