Tropical Plant "White sapote"
Casimiroa edulis
Characteristics - The white sapote is an exotic fruit bearer, originally from the temperate regions of Mexico and Central America, occasionally cultivated in the domestic orchards of Brazil. It is an evergreen tree, 6-14 m tall, with lenticellated branches, greyish in color. Leaves compound, 5 digitate, with a petiole of 10-12 cm in length, leaves chartaceous, glabrous and lustrous, 10-18 cm long, the margins are entire or slightly undulated. Flowers discreet, greenish, androgynous, fragrant, arranged in short, axillary panicles, that do not exceed the length of the leaves; they form from April to June. The fruits are round drupes, smooth, yellow, with a creamy, carnose pulp, that has a sweet and pleasant flavor, there are 2-5 large seeds; they ripen from August to November.
Uses - The fruits are generally consumed in natura ( fresh/raw) and much appreciated.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
