Tropical Plant "Smooth-shelled macadamia nut"
Macadamia integrifolia

Characteristics - The smooth-shelled macadamia nut is an exotic fruit bearer, native to the tropical forests, along the Australian coast. It was introduced to Brazil in 1931 by the Dierberger Nursery, today it is commercially cultivated in various regions of the country. It is an evergreen, with a dense crown, 9-18 m tall. Flowers simple, 3-verticillated, coriaceous, glabrous, brilliant, 10-30 cm long, serrated margins with small spines. Inflorescences in pendulous, axillary racemes, 10-30 cm long, with fragrant white flowers that form from July to September. Fruits are ovoids, dehiscent, revealing one, very hard, nutshell, inside of it is the nut, somewhat sweet in flavor and considered to be one of the most delicious in existence; They mature January to March.

Uses - The nuts are consumed in natura or roasted and greatly appreciated.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
