Tropical Plant "Champedak"

Characteristics - The champedak is an exotic fruit, recently introduced into Brazil and occasionally cultivated in domestic orchards, mainly in the tropical regions of the country; it is a native of Indonesia and Malaysia where it is found at an altitude of 1300 m. It is a deciduous tree, 10-20 m tall, with hispid hairs on the branches and young leaves. Leaves chartaceous and glabrous above, frequently trilobed when young, entire and ellipsoid when mature, 15-28 cm long. Inflorescences unisexual, form from April to June, the males in cilindrical spikes only 5 cm long. The fruits are syncarps, ripening in the spring , the succulent pulp has a sweet flavor and is very aromatic; it wraps around the large seeds.
Uses - Both the pulp and seeds ,
of the fruit, are consumed in natura or can be cooked.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
