Tropical Plant "Yellow pitaya"
Selenicereus megalanthus

Characteristics - The yellow pitaya is a shrub, succulent and epiphytic, originally from Ecuador, occasionally cultivated in Brazil. Phylloclades (green photosynthe-sizing branches) are trialate, 4-5 cm wide, slightly branched with two thorns, short and rigid with a thick base, on each areole; they hold themselves up and attach to any support they find ,with aerial roots. Flowers solitary, androgynous, nocturnal, form during the spring. The fruits are berries, with areoles on the surfaceand a tuft of thin spines, on each areole, that releases easily, when they are ripe (summer), they have a succulent pulp with a sweet flavor and are very tasty.

Uses - The fruits are consumed in natura and are already available in the markets.

Propagation - Exclusively with cuttings.
