Physalis pubescens
Characteristics - Physalis pubescens is a fruit bearer, seldom cultivated and frequent in nature in almost all the brazilian territory, where it has been naturalized, occuring sub-spontaneously in agricultural areas, along roadsides and in empty lots. It is an herbaceous, summer annual, erect, the color, in general, is yellowish-green and intensely villous-pubescent, 80-120 cm tall. Leaves simple, membranaceous, dense-pubescent on both surfaces, 2-6 cm long. Flowers are solitary, with yellow petals and a black throat, forming 30-40 days after germination. Fruits globose berries, hidden by the calyx, which surrounds them like a balloon. The pulp is succulent and sweet. They ripen 80-90 days after germination.
Uses - The fruits are consumed in their natural state and widely appreciated.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
