Tropical Plant "Bapeba"
Pouteria bullata





Characteristics -The Pouteria bullata is not a cultivated fruit bearer, it is abundant in its natural habitat the gallery forests in regions of semideciduous forest, in the Parana River Basin and on the southeast coast. It is a semi-deciduous tree, lactiferous, from 10-16 m tall, with a canaliculate trunk, ferru-ginous-tomentose new branches. Leaves are chartaceous, concentrated on the extremities of the branches,from 18-28 cm long, with the superior surface glabrous and the inferior pubescent. Inflorescences in fascicles with 3-5 flowers, bisexual and discreet, arranged on bare branches, below the leaves, form in October-November. Fruits are ellipsoids, densely tomentose, with a gelatinous pulp, sweet, 1 seed; mature in November-December.

Uses - Fruits are consumed in their natural state and should be very mature.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
