Tropical Plant "Smooth genip"
Genipa infudibuliforme
Characteristics - The smooth genip is a fruit tree, not cultivated and rare in nature in its natural habitat, the Atlantic rain forest slopes and sandy plateaus, in the state of Espirito Santo and southern Bahia. It is an evergreen tree, 8-16 m tall, with a dense, globose crown. Leaves membranaceous, glabrous, shiny; variable when immature, leaves may be lo-bed, later entire, 20-40 cm long (up to 60 cm when new), concentrated at the extremities of the branches, nervation is very evident on the upper surface. Flowers arranged in small groups (2-4) form in October and November. The fruits are globose berries, crowned with stigmatic remains, the pulp is carnose, aromatic with an acidic flavor; they ripen in July-August.
Uses - The fruits are consumed in their natural state, preferably with sugar to cut the acidity.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
