Tropical Plant "Giant granadilla"
Passiflora quadrangularis
Characteristics - The giant granadilla is a fruit bearer, rarely cultivated in Brazil, it is also rare in nature in its natural habitat, the Amazon region, mainly in the western area, in the flood plain forests, along the rivers . It is a robust, herbaceous plant, semi-perennial, climber (with tendrils), entirely glabrous, with a robust caulis, quadrangular with the angles conspicuously alate, and stipules ovate-lanceolate, 2.0-3.5 cm in length. Leaves membranaceous, 10-20 cm long with a 2-5 cm petiole, canaliculate on top, with 6 paired glands. Flowers solitary, perfumed, more than 12cm in diameter, form from September to December. Fruits have a juicy pulp, with a pleasant, sweet flavor; ripening occurs from October to March.
Uses - The fruits are consumed in their natural state and are greatly appreciated.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
