Tropical Plant "Araca-cinzento"
Psidium cinereum
Characteristics - Psidium cinereum is a fruit bearer not under cultivation and of low occurrence in nature in its natural habitat, the fields of the Southern Plateau and in the savannas (cerrados), and grasslands. It is a shrub, deciduous, less than 2 m high, all of its parts are grey in color, and new branches are tetragonal. Leaves charta-ceous, aromatic, 4-6 cm long with new leaves briefly, albescent-tomentose with 5 prominent, curved lateral nerves. Flowers axillary, white, large, generally in groups of 2-4, with peduncles of 7-20 mm, form from September to December. The fruits are berries, globose or obovoid, yellowish-green, crowned by persistent sepals, with a succulent pulp, and an acidic, sweet flavor. They ripen from January to March.
Uses - The fruits are consumed mainly in their natural state but are not widely appreciated.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
