Tropical Plant "Cattley guava"
Psidium cattleianum
Characteristics - The Cattley guava is widely cultivated in domestic orchards, mainly in the southern part of the country; it is also frequent in its natural habitat, the littoral levees (restin-gas) and in the Atlantic Forest of the southern region as well as on the Southern Plateau. It is a shrub or small tree, evergreen, 1-9 m, with smooth, grey bark on the trunk and branches. Leaves coriaceous, glabrous, shiny, aromatic, 5-9 cm. Flowers are axillary, solitary, white with peduncles 5-10 mm, they form from September to December. The fruits are globose berries, yellow or red, with a pleasant, acidic-sweet flavor. Ripening occurs from January to March. The following photos show the existing formas and cultivars.
Uses - The fruits are consumed, mainly in their natural state and are greatly appreciated.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
