Tropical Plant "Camu camu"
Myrciaria dubia
Characteristics - The camu camu is a fruit bearer occasionally cultivated in domestic orchards, mainly in the Amazon region, where it is also found in its wild form in the nothwest area, especially in flooded areas, with the lower half of the caulis immersed in water. It is a shrub with evergreen foliage, 2-4 m tall, rarely in tree form up to 7 m tall. Leaves chartaceous, glabrous, 4-7 cm long with a 3-6cm petiole. Flowers androgynous and fragrant, form in February and March. The fruits are globose berries, with a thin and lustrous skin, initially red, turning a purplish-black, they have a succulent pulp, very acidic, rich in Vitamin C, and ripen in December-January.
Uses -The fruits are consumed in their natural state, as juices as well as being made into jellies and sweets.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
