Tropical Plant "Sete-capotes"
Campomanesia guazumifolia
Characteristics - Campomanesia guazumifolia is a native fruit tree, occasionally cultivated in the southern part of the country but not frequent in its natural habitat, the Southern Plateau and the Serra da Mantiqueira, in various types of forest. It is a deciduous tree, 3-8 m tall with a lot of peeling bark on the trunk. Leaves are coriaceous, rugose, 7-14 cm long with prominent nerves. Flowers solitary or in pairs, androgynous, axillary, large, form from October to November. Fruits are subglobose berries that ripen from March to May. They have a succulent, acidic-sweet flavor with a few soft seeds.
Uses - The fruits are consumed in their natural state but not widely appreciated.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
