Tropical Plant "Pessego-do-mato"
Eugenia myrcianthes
Characteristics - The Eugenia myrcianthes is a fruit bearer, not cultivated, and relatively frequent in nature, in its natural habitat,in the states of Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Goias, Mato Grosso do Sul to Rio Grande do Sul, in open vegetation along the coastal area and in the Parana River Basin. It is a small tree, 4-6 m tall with deciduous foliage. Leaves are subcoriaceous, the new ones membranaceous and markedly pubescent over the nerves, from 3-6 cm long. Flowers, grouped in small, axillary racemes, with 2-5 pedicilated flowers, form from July to September. Fruits are subglobose, velutinous, with a succulent pulp, aromatic, with an acidic -sweet flavor somewhat pleasant, considered by some, to be slightly laxative; they mature from September to November.
Uses - the fruits are consumed only in natura, and mainly in the form of juices.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
