Tropical Plant "Bacuripari"
Garcinia macrophylla
Characteristics - The bacuripari is a fruit tree occasionally cultivated in the lower Amazon region and easily found in its natural habitat, both wet and dry forest. It is an evergreen, 10-20 m tall. The new growth branches are sulcate and nodose. Leaves are simple, coriaceous, glabrous on both surfaces, brilliant on the upper and the lower surfaces, 16 -40 cm long, brownish when youg. Flowers: 10-25 male and 5-10 androgynous per fascicle, whitish and slightly scented, form during the months from May to August. Fruits are smooth, globose orelipsoid, conspicuosly rostrate with a thick peel and acidic but pleasant flavored fleshy pulp They ripen from October to February.
Uses - The fruits are consumed only in their natural state and are widely commercialized in markets in the Amazon region.
Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
