Tropical Fruit Tree "Murici-do-campo"

Characteristics - It is not a cultivated fruit tree however it is abundant in its natural habitat, the savannas of Para, Amapa and Roraima (where it appears as a bush), also in the scrublands, barren lands and thickets (cerrados) of central Brazil and Minas Gerais, where it is less frequent and may become a tree up to 6 m tall. Leaves are simple, concentrated on the apices of the branches, coriaceous, tomentose-villous on both surfaces, 14-20 cm long. Inflorescences in simple racemes, up to 30 cm long, concentrated at the axil of the apices of the branches, with showy, androgynous flowers ,that form from August to November.The fruits are globose drupes, with a carnose pulp, acidic in flavor, ripen from January to March.

Uses - The fruits are consumed only in their natural state, as juices, which are greatly appreciated.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
