Tropical Fruit Tree "Marmelada-rasteira"
Cordiera humilis

Characteristics - The Cordiera humilis is not a cultivated fruit bearer, and is more or less frequent, in nature, in its natural habitat, the savannas and open fields of central Brazil and Minas Gerais. It is a deciduous shrub, dimorphic and rhizomatous, without a defined trunk, generally forming real clumps, less than 1m tall. Leaves chartaceous, glabrous above, bicolored and somewhat glossy on the superior surface, from 8-14 cm in length. Flowers are white, the males in terminal glomerules (photo on right.) and the females solitary and terminal, form at the beginning of spring. Fruits are oblong, of the berry-type, with a carnose pulp, and a slightly sweet flavor, they are enveloped by a thin skin, containing many small seeds; they ripen at the end of spring and the beginning of summer.

Uses - The fruits are generally consumed in their natural form.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
