Tropical Fruit Tree "Madrono"
Garcinia madruno

Characteristics - The madrono is a fruit tree occasionally cultivated in the Amazon region and easily found in its natural habitat, the Eastern Amazon, in dry forests with generally sandy soils. It is evergreen with a dense crown, new growth branches are somewhat angular. It is 6-12 m tall. Leaves are simple, coriaceous, glabrous on both surfaces, brilliant, 12-20 cm long. 20-40 male and 5-10 androgynous flowers per fascicle, form from May to August. Fruits are muricated (rugose) non rostrate, with a thick skin and a firm fleshy pulp that has a very pleasant acidic-sweet flavor. They ripen from October to February.

Uses - The fruits are consumed in their natural state and much appreciated.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
