Pouteria gardnerii



Characteristics - Pouteria gardnerii is a fruit tree, not under cultivation nor very frequent in its natural habitat, in the semi-deciduous forests of Piaui, Maranhao, Bahia, Tocantins, Goias, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Sao Paulo and Parana. It is a deciduous tree, lactiferous, 8-14 m tall, with new branches, pubescent. Leaves chartaceous, glabrous on the upper surface and glaucous, glabrous or with sparse indument, over the nerves, on the inferior surface, 6-11 cm long. Inflorescences in fascicles on the axiles of leaves that have dropped (leafless branches) with 1-3 unisexual flowers, form in September-October. Fruits globose, carnose pulp, slightly sweet, only 1 seed, ripen December-January.

Uses - The fruits are consumed only in their natural state and not appreciated much.

Propagation - Propagated by seeds.
