Tropical Fruit Tree "Araticum-liso"
Annona coriacea



Characteristics - The articum liso is a fruit tree not yet under cultivation, native to the scrublands from Bahia to Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Goias, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul where it is of frequent occurence. It is a deciduous tree, 3-6 m tall. The trunk is almost smooth, 20-30 cm in diameter. Leaves are simple, glabrous on both surfaces and thick-coriaceous, 9-15 cm long. Flowers are solitary, large, with fleshy yellow petals, containing both sexes. They form from November through January. Fruits compound (syncarp), oblong to cordate in form, containing a fibrous, succulent pulp with a strong aroma and pronounced sweetness. They mature from January through March.

Uses -The fruits of this species are rarely consumed even though their aroma and taste are pleasant. They are somewhat laxative.

Propagation - Propagated exclusively by seeds.
