The commone name given to the Teddy Bear Palm comes from the texture of the fur-like brown fuzzy material (tomentum) on the crown shaft. It is Botanically known as Dypsis leptocheilos, and has many different synonyms such as Neodypsis leptocheilos and Dypsis darianii, Dypsis lastelliana, and Neodypsis lastelliana. Teddy Bear Palms are an easily grown palm which likes full Sun to partial shade to light shade and a moist, well drained position. It produces a pure white ringed waxy trunk. The Teddy Bear Palm has long pinnate (feather shape) leaves with wonderfully drooping leaflets. The flowers of the Teddy Bear Palm are pale yellow. Spacing of this palm should be 15-20′ apart.
