Old Man Palm Tree
The beautiful Old Man Palm Tree (Coccothrinax crinita) is a rare palm that is native to Cuba. The common name is referred to the long fiber husk resembling an old mans beard. Old Man Palms are very slow growing and reaches a maximum height of about 15-20 ft. The pinnate leaves are some times a stunning blue to blue green color and used for thatch. The Old Man Palm is frequently planted as an ornamental and is cold tolerant to 25-32 degrees F. Coccothrinax crinita enjoys sun to partial shade and requires well draining soil. It usually grows in wet damp savannas, occasionally in hilly areas. The Old Man Palm will make an great addition to any home or office.
